Toronto, ON

Toronto is consistently ranked as one of the most liveable, innovative, and competitive cities in the world by just about everyone.

So is it any surprise that Jane’s Walk originated here in Toronto, a city of many distinct neighbourhoods and a diverse cultural mix? Or that in May 2014 there were over 150 walks offered by Torontonians?

Join us in exploring our incredible city either by leading or participating in a Jane’s Walk!

Jane’s Walks

Get out and walk! Explore, learn and share through a Jane’s Walk in Toronto, ON

Jane’s Walk is a walking conversation led by volunteers that creates a space for citizens to discuss what matters to them while learning more about their city and their neighbours. Examples of past walks include: Wild Scarborough, examining the ravines and the wildlife within them; Davenport's Chalk Walk, drawing the change participants want to see in the neighbourhood; and, Forever Fierce, Newcomer Youth Does Jane's Walk 2013, in which queer newcomer youth celebrated finding much-needed acceptance and support in Toronto.

Check out the walks that are being offered and simply show up at the designated time and place – all walks are free!

We'll start at the northwest corner of Midland and Kingston Road, under John Hood's (1990) "Halfway House" mural. Kingston Road has a long and colourful history. Long before the arrival of Europeans, an ancient aboriginal trail ran along the north shore of the lake; in the pioneer era, a pathway was cut out of the bush that followed this earlier transportation route. In the early twentieth century, the radials — electric trams that ran along Kingston Road — brought pleasure seekers out to Scarborough's scenic cliffs for a day in the country.
